KIMBERLEY, CANADA, September 16, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Big news! The Fat Bike World Championships will be hosted in Kimberley, BC, Canada, for the first time ever, delivered in partnership with Kimberley Trails Society (KTS), Crested Butte Mountain Bike Association (CBMBA), Kimberley Alpine Resort, and Kimberley Tourism.

Riders from across North America will descend on Kimberley for a long weekend of world-class racing, outrageous costumes, legendary parties, and unforgettable winter fun.

Whether you're chasing a World Championship title or just here for an incredible weekend on snow, this will be an unforgettable experience for those who attend—and one that everyone else wishes they hadn't missed.

Why is Kimberley a good place to host an event like this?

Kimberley is the perfect host because of its established winter infrastructure. Since 2018, Kimberley has been actively grooming trails for winter activities. Today, the town boasts an amazing team of dedicated volunteers who maintain over 40km of winter trails,

Add in a reliable winter climate, a major resort (Kimberley Alpine Resort) to anchor the venue, and a community famous for its vibrant spirit and "legendary après" culture, and it’s a match made in heaven.

Who all is involved?

The event is being delivered through a partnership between local and international organizations:

Kimberley Trails Society (KTS): The local group responsible for the amazing volunteer team that maintains the 40km+ winter trail network.
Crested Butte Mountain Bike Association (CBMBA): The Colorado-based organization where the Fat Bike World Championships originated, helping bring the event to Canada.
Kimberley Alpine Resort: Providing the mountain venue and resort infrastructure.
Tourism Kimberley: Supporting regional promotion.
Is Kimberley becoming well-known for fat biking?

Yes, absolutely. Kimberley has grown a reputation as a premier winter biking destination. This recognition is the direct result of nearly a decade of hard work; the community has been building its expertise, volunteer base, and trail network since 2018, turning Kimberley's snow trails into a major magnet for winter cyclists.  This caught the eye of the CBMBA who have been running the Fatbike Worlds for multiple years in different towns across the USA and approached us with an interest in hosting next year's even in Canada.

What is fat biking?

In this context, fat biking encompasses all bicycles equipped with wider-than-usual tires (3 inches or greater) specifically designed to be ridden on snow.  The wider surface area of the tires distributes the rider's weight, allowing the bike to "float" and stay on top of the packed snow surface rather than cutting or sinking into it, which is what would happen with standard summer bike tires.

The Vibe: It’s not just for elite athletes. The announcement emphasizes that the weekend is just as much about "outrageous costumes," legendary parties, and inclusive fun as it is about chasing a World Championship title.

More details, including race formats, festivities, registration information, and volunteer opportunities, will be announced throughout the year leading up to FBW 2027.
